General Announcements

‘In Their Shoes: A Poverty Simulation for the World Day of the Poor’ will be held at St. Barnabas Parish in Indianapolis on Nov. 7

“In Their Shoes: A Poverty Simulation for the World Day of the Poor” will be held at St. Barnabas Parish, 8300 Rahke Road, in Indianapolis, from 1-4 p.m. on Nov. 7.

Led by a facilitator trained through the Missouri Association for Community Action, the event simulates the day-to-day realities of life with a shortage of money and an abundance of stress to promote a greater understanding of poverty.

During the simulation, participants will role-play the lives of low-income families, from single parents trying to care for their children to senior citizens trying to maintain their self-sufficiency on Social Security. The task of each family is to provide food, shelter and other basic necessities during the simulation while interacting with various community resources staffed by low-income volunteers.

There will be an optional service opportunity at the parish following the simulation, and participants are invited to worship at the parish’s 5 p.m. Mass.

The event is sponsored by the archdiocese’s Catholic Charities-Social Concerns and the Indianapolis Society of St. Vincent de Paul. It honors the Church’s World Day of the Poor, which takes place this year on Nov. 15.

Participants must be 18 or older. The registration deadline is Oct. 24.

To register, go to tinyurl.com/2026InTheirShoes.

For more information or to register offline, contact Laura Sheehan at 317-542-2492 or lsheehan@archindy.org.

Right to Life of Indianapolis annual Celebrate Life Dinner is set for Oct. 13

The Right to Life of Indianapolis Celebrate Life Dinner will take place at the Marriott Ballroom, 350 W. Maryland St., in Indianapolis, from 6-9:30 p.m. on Oct. 13.

Check-in will start at 6 p.m., the dinner and awards ceremony will begin at 6:45 p.m. and the keynote address will commence at 8 p.m.

The evening will serve as a tribute to Marc Tuttle, the former Right to Life of Indianapolis president for 18 years who died unexpectedly on June 2. The keynote address will be offered by Deacon Paul Lunsford, who serves at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Carmel, Ind. (Diocese of Lafayette), where the Tuttle family are members.

The annual dinner supports Right to Life of Indianapolis in its mission to help expectant mothers in Indianapolis and its surrounding counties choose life for their unborn children. It does so through education, events, advocacy and connecting expectant mothers with the resources they need to love themselves and their unborn children. The organization seeks to renew efforts to grow the pro-life movement among youths and young adults, reinvigorate the gospel of life in its region’s churches, and push back against the culture of death.

The cost is $125 per person or $1,250 for a table of 10.

To register, sponsor a table or for more information, go to tinyurl.com/RTLIDinner2026, call 317-582-1526 or email life@rtlindy.org.

Online retreat for adult children of divorce will take place on Wednesdays from Oct. 7 through Nov. 18

Life-Giving Wounds will offer an online retreat via Zoom for adult children of divorce or separation from 8:15-10 p.m. on Wednesdays from Oct. 7 through Nov. 18.

Life-Giving Wounds, which has a chapter in the archdiocese, offers unique opportunities for Catholics age 18 and older whose parents have divorced, separated or left broken families, to reflect intentionally on the wounds caused by their family’s breakdown. The online healing retreat provides such adults time to deeply reflect on the wounds caused by their family’s breakdown and to find healing alongside other peers who truly understand this pain. Those within the archdiocese will be grouped together during online breakout sessions.

The retreat is led by knowledgeable, compassionate leaders who are also predominantly from families of divorced or separated parents. The goal is to lead participants to an encounter with Christ who can transform their life-draining wounds into life-giving sources of faith, hope, love and joy.

The cost is $155 for ages 18-25 and $245 for ages 26 and older. The cost includes a retreat guide, a journal and access to Life-Giving Wounds’ private online community for ongoing connection and formation during and after the retreat.

To register or for more information, including topics, speakers and schedule, call Gabriela Ross, director of the archdiocesan Office of Marriage and Family Life, at 317-592-4007 or e-mail gross@archindy.org.
