In This Photo

In this photo taken on Oct. 25, 1998, ground is broken for a new church building at St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Spencer. From 1951 to 1998, the parish worshiped in a house that had been converted into a church. Pictured are Father Paul Dede, pastor of the parish at that time, and members of the parish council and building committee. The new church was dedicated on May 14, 2000, and the original church building became the Paul M. Dede Parish Center. This photo of Dominican Sisters originally appeared in the Nov. 15, 1957, issue of the Indiana Catholic & Record newspaper, the predecessor to The Criterion. The sisters were from St. Catharine, Kentucky, and taught in one of two schools in the archdiocese that were staffed by Dominican Sisters.
