Religious freedom: Sharing faith with courage and respect

Criterion staff report

ArchIndy Vox pocast logoReligious freedom is more than the ability to worship as we choose. It is rooted in the God-given dignity of every person—and it calls us to seek truth, form our consciences and respectfully make room for others to do the same.

In the latest episode of  “The Church in Our Time: What Vatican II Means for Everyday Catholics,” host Ken Ogorek, executive director of the archdiocesan Secretariat for Evangelizing Catechesis, explores “Dignitatis Humanae,” the Second Vatican Council’s Declaration on Religious Freedom. He is joined by Roarke LaCoursiere, former associate director of the Indiana Catholic Conference, and Marion County Judge David Certo.

Together, they consider what this decades-old document can teach us about living and sharing our faith today. Their lively conversation touches on bringing faith into the public square, listening with patience and charity, and speaking about Christ without coercion or fear.

The guests remind listeners that religious freedom brings both rights and responsibilities. Catholics are called to share the joy and hope they have found in Christ while respecting the dignity, freedom and beliefs of every person.
