General Announcements
October events at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods honor St. Mother Theodore Guérin’s feast day, canonization
The Sisters of Providence will offer two events in October honoring their founder St. Mother Theodore Guérin. Both events will take place at 1 Providence Pl., Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, in St. Mary-of-the-Woods.
A Mass for the saint’s feast day will take place in the Church of the Immaculate Conception at 11 a.m. on Oct. 3. A livestream link will also be available for viewing the Mass. The link will be posted at events.sistersofprovidence.org.
Next, all are invited to celebrate the 20th anniversary of St. Mother Theodore Guérin’s canonization from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Oct. 11.
St. Mother Theodore Guérin founded the Sisters of Providence in 1840. She was born Anne-Therese Guérin on Oct. 2, 1798, in the village of Étables in Brittany, France. She was canonized by
Pope Benedict XVI on Oct. 15, 2006, and her feast day was designated for Oct. 3. She is the first Indiana saint and the eighth Catholic saint from the United States.
The celebration will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a pilgrimage through the motherhouse grounds, where Mother Theodore founded the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.
At 11 a.m., all are welcome to attend a special Mass in St. Mother Theodore’s honor in the Church of the Immaculate Conception. A picnic luncheon will follow.
There is no cost to attend, but registration is needed to know how many people will be attending.
For more information or to register for the Oct. 11 anniversary celebration, go to events.sistersofprovidence.org, call 812-535-2952 or send an e-mail to msolis-deal@spsmw.org.
